Eagles Go Undefeated at Gulf Shores Invitational

Gulf Shores, Ala. - The No. 8 Central Methodist Softball team picked up four wins at the Gulf Shores Invite last weekend in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Game 1: No. 8 CMU 8 - No. 22 William Carey 4

Haile Farris earned her fourth win of the year in the circle, tossing five complete innings against No. 22 William Carey in the tournament opener. She gave up just two earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. Haley Cotter came in relief and pitched the final two innings.

Elizabeth Palumbo batted a perfect four-for-four with four RBI to lead the Eagle bats. Kaysie Jolley batted two-for-three with a two-RBI double in the fourth inning. Kelena Oots, Lauren Hill, and Carly Robbins all picked up two hits.

Altogether the Eagles' offense scored eight runs on 15 hits and four walks.

Game 2: No. 8 CMU 2 - Houston-Victoria 1

It was a scoreless three-and-a-half innings of play before Central plated the first two runs of the game on hits from Palumbo and Madison White.

Sophomore pitcher Jordyn Ball was dialed in from start to finish as she pitched a complete game while just allowing one run on three hits with 10 strikeouts.

Game 3: No. 8 CMU 8 - Texas A&M Texarkana 0

The first game Sunday saw the Eagles cruise past A&M Texarkana in a five-inning shutout. Central scored two runs in the first inning on an RBI single from Joely Crider followed by an error by the defense. CMU would not score again until the fourth inning. The offense exploded for six runs on seven hits and one error from Texarkana to extend their lead to 8-0.

Cotter pitched a complete game shutout, throwing five innings and striking out three batters.

The Eagles scored eight runs on 11 hits with Crider and Robbins both leading the way with two hits apiece. Additionally, Madison Roberts, Lauren Hill, and Palumbo each drove in two RBI.

Game 4: No. 8 CMU 5 - Central Baptist 4

The final game of the tournament saw the Eagles go into extra innings against Central Baptist. Both teams exchanged runs in the eighth inning, as the score remained deadlocked at 3-3. The Mustangs plated a run in the top of the ninth to take a 4-3 lead heading into the final half-inning.

A sacrifice fly from Jolley was deep enough to allow Daly Garland to score from third. Cassidy Brent then singled to bring Oots around for the game-winning run.

Ball got the start in the circle, pitching 5.2 innings and giving up two runs on six hits. Farris would ultimately earn the win, as she pitched the final 3.1 innings of the game.

Altogether, Central scored five runs on 12 hits.
