Fayette, Mo. - The No. 8 Central Methodist Softball team picked up a single-game victory over Bellevue University, 5-1, Sunday afternoon at Cox Softball Complex.
A double from sophomore Joely Crider in the bottom of the first inning scored Elizabeth Palumbo to put Central out in front, 1-0. Daly Garland followed in the bottom of the second with a double to score Lauren Hill.
Bellevue would respond with a run in the top of the third, before Central plated two more runs in the bottom half of the frame.
After the Bruins retired the first two batters, Crider walked which brought fellow sophomore Madison Roberts to the plate. Roberts tripled to right to score Crider from first and put herself in scoring position.
Madison White would then single through the left side to bring Roberts home, making the score 4-1 in favor of the Eagles. Kaysie Jolley capped the day with a leadoff home run to right field in the bottom of the fifth.
Sophomore pitcher Jordyn Ball was solid from start to finish in the circle, tossing a complete game and giving up just one earned run on six hits. She also recorded double digit strikeouts with 11, marking the second double-digit strikeout game of the season for the Fayette native.
Central finished the day scoring five runs on seven hits and one walk. Four of the Eagles' seven hits went for extra bases.
CMU now stands at 4-1 and will hit the road for the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Georgia, beginning Friday, Feb. 16.
