Fayette, Mo. - The No. 8 Central Methodist Softball team swept McPherson College in a double header Friday night at Cox Softball Complex.
The Eagles won game one, 9-1, in five innings followed by an 8-0 shut out over the Bulldogs in game two.
In game one, Central jumped out in front quickly with three runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by a two-run home run from Kaysie Jolley to left field.
Jolley followed that up with an RBI-double in the second inning, while Palumbo singled through the right side to put CMU up 5-0 after just two innings.
McPherson plated its only run in the top of the fourth inning. Following back-to-back hits for the Bulldogs, the third batter grounded out to the Central infield, who got the sure out at first.
In the bottom half of the frame, Central scored four runs on four hits, capitalizing on a two-out error by the McPherson outfield which plated two runs.
Madison Roberts also recorded an RBI-single while Lauren Hill doubled to centerfield. Cotter gave up just one hit in the final half inning to preserve the 9-1 victory.
The sophomore pitcher tossed a complete game, allowing just one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts to pick up her first win of the year.
Jolley led the Eagle bats with three hits in three trips to the plate, including a single, a double, and a two-RBI home run in the first inning. Elizabeth Palumbo and Lauren Hill each tallied two hits, while Kelena Oots recorded a lead off triple in the first inning.
The Eagles picked up right where they left off moving into game two, scoring four runs five hits in the first inning. The top of the first featured an RBI-single for Jolley, a two-RBI double for Crider, and an RBI-double for Hill.
Central scored a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings respectively to secure a run-rule victory. Hill had an incredible showing, batting three-for-three with a home run, double, and single, which resulted in a career-best five RBI for the junior.
Senior Madison White batted two-for-three with two runs scored, while Crider drove in a pair of runners.
Sophomore pitcher Jordyn Ball tossed a no-hitter en route to her second win of the year. The native of Fayette struck out five Bulldog batters and improved her record to 2-0.
Central remains at home to host Bellevue University for a single-game Sunday, Feb. 11 beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Cox Softball Complex.
