Eric Moore Named Heart Bowler and Newcomer of the Year; Eagle Men Make Program Debut at Heart Championships

Topeka, Kan. - History was made this past weekend for the CMU Men's Bowling team at the Heart of America Conference Championships in Topeka, Kansas. 

Central made its first-ever appearance at the Heart Championships, which were hosted by Baker University on Friday and Saturday. 

Highlighting the meet for the Eagles was senior Eric Moore, who was named both the Heart Men's Bowling Player and Newcomer of the Year. The native of Macon, Missouri led the conference in high average at 200.05 pins/game. He was also named a Heart First Team All-Conference selection. 

It marks the first conference awards for the program in school history. 

On the team side, CMU bowled in 24 Baker games Friday, finishing with a score of 3741 to earn a seventh-place seeding entering match play. 

In match play, the Eagles recorded one of the biggest upsets of the tournament, knocking off No. 2-seeded Baker in round one by scores of 220-199, 154-214, 180-141, and 161-137. Central would then square off against No. 6 Culver-Stockton in round two, where they would fall to the Wildcats 184-147, 184-143, 166-159. 

The Eagles headed into round three where they would face No. 1 William Penn. CMU fell to the Statesmen in five games by scores of 163-146, 136-135, 150-170, 185-183, and 231-152 to close their tournament run.

Central concluded the championship with a fifth-place finish in their conference tournament debut.
