Fayette, Mo. - After a decade of leading the Central Methodist Competitive Cheer program, Head Coach Terin Fuemmeler has announced her resignation.
"During my tenure of ten years at CMU I have had the distinct pleasure of sharing my love for the sport of cheerleading with all of the student-athletes who have been members of my team," said Fuemmeler. "I feel especially proud of the two Heart Conference Championships, the Heart Coach of the Year honor, and the NCA small Co-Ed National Championship title we earned during my time at Central. The athletes, coaches, staff, and fabulous people I have been fortunate enough to work with at CMU will always be dear to my heart."
Under her leadership, the program soared to new heights, including two top-two podium finishes at the NCA Cheer National Championships in 2021 and 2022. The team made history by winning the program's first National Championship in the Advanced Small Coed NAIA Division as part of the NCA Collegiate Cheer and Dance National Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida in April of 2021.
At the NAIA level, the competitive cheer team made its first appearance at the NAIA Competitive Cheer National Championships in 2019, bringing home an 8th-place finish. For her coaching prowess Fuemmeler was named 2019 Heart Coach of the Year. In 2015 and 2016, the CMU cheerleaders won back-to-back Heart Co-Ed Cheer Championships.
For the first five years of her Central coaching career, she also led the competitive dance team, reaching the NAIA national championship in her final season at the helm of the program.
"I am completely confident that this year's team will continue on a path of continued excellence," added Fuemmeler. "I will remain one of the team's biggest supporters. Although I will no longer be coaching, I will be around often to show my continued love & support of CMU, the athletic department, and of course my beloved CMU Cheerleaders. This position has been one of my life's greatest blessings, and I am honored to have had the opportunity to coach at CMU. It's now and always a great day to be an Eagle!"
Current Central Methodist Head STUNT Coach Kennedy Wingbermuehle will serve as the Interim Head Coach, beginning immediately.
"I am very excited for this opportunity and honored to be trusted with this program by Vice President, Dr. Joe Parisi and Athletic Director, Jeff Sherman," stated Wingbermuehle. "I have witnessed firsthand what a hardworking and talented group of athletes this is, and I'm looking forward to sharing my knowledge and experience with the program. I will help this program continue to grow and I am looking forward to recruiting talented athletes to join the CMU family."
Wingbermuehle is an experienced competitor and proven winner. She is a 2021 graduate of Oklahoma State University, where she led her team to two STUNT national titles in 2019 and 2021. Wingbermuehle was also named the STUNT athlete of the year in 2019.
In addition, Wingbermuehle captained the OSU cheer team to its seventh national championship in Large Cheer Co-Ed Division 1A in 2021. Wingbermuehle also served as a cheerleading instructor for the Universal Cheerleaders Association from 2016-19.
After her time at OSU, she came to Central in the summer of 2021, serving as an admissions counselor while also building up the STUNT program.
"While I am saddened to see Coach Fuemmeler leave the CMU family, I am elated for this opportunity for Coach Wingbermuehle," said Director of Athletics, Jeff Sherman. "We are extremely fortunate to have had Coach Fuemmeler lead our program to high success and thank her for her relentless commitment to our student athletes and athletics program. Terin will always be an Eagle. I am excited to see where Coach Wingbermuehle and graduate assistant, Jerome Asbury can take our Competitive Cheer and STUNT teams.
