
Columbus, Ga. - The No. 5 Central Methodist Softball team began its World Series run with a matchup against No. 4 Oklahoma City Wednesday night in Columbus, Georgia.
Central fell to the Stars by a score of 13-0 in five innings.
After both teams went scoreless in the first inning, the Stars scored one in the second off a defensive miscue by the Eagles' infield.
Oklahoma extended its lead in the third inning of play with four more runs.
The offense continued to roll for the Stars as they added four runs in the fourth, followed by four more in the fifth. The fifth was highlighted by a pair of home runs, including a grand slam to clear the bases.
Stellar pitching from Oklahoma City gave the Eagles their first loss in this double-elimination tournament.
Oklahoma City scored 13 runs on 17 hits, compared to just four hits for the Eagles.
Joely Crider, Maddie Holly, Kaysie Jolley, and Daly Garland each tallied a hit for CMU, including a double from Crider.
Central will look to bounce back Friday and stay alive in the tournament.
CMU will next face Midland University in an elimination game. The Warriors are coming off an 8-3 loss to Grand View, a team that the Eagles swept in Heart Conference play earlier this season.
First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m. CT from Columbus.
