Second Half Surge Propels No. 5 CMU Past Kansas Wesleyan

Fayette, Mo. - The No. 5 Central Methodist Women's Soccer team remained at home Saturday evening, looking to extend their winning streak to three straight to begin 2024.

The Eagles welcomed Kansas Wesleyan University in what would be the Coyotes first match of the season.

Central opened up the scoring in the 28th minute thanks to an unassisted goal by Kirstine Lykke, who notched her fourth goal of the season.

After both sides got off a couple more shots in the half, the score remained the same heading into the halftime break.

In the second half, the Coyotes came out firing looking to even up the score as quickly as possible. They did just that as in the 47th minute, as Precious Nwosu picked up her first goal of the campaign to even the match at 1-1.

The Eagles, however, regrouped in a matter of minutes and got a spark on offense.

Andrea Jimenez gave Central Methodist a 2-1 lead in the 65th minute, followed by a Lacey Ann Murray goal just nine minutes later.

With that, the Eagles were able to shut the door on the Coyotes and improve to 3-0 on the season, whereas Kansas Wesleyan falls to 0-1 to begin their slate.

CMU finished the evening with 13 total shots, including seven shots on goal. KWU finished with just four shots and three coming on goal.

Central remains at home for their fourth straight match, as they welcome Oklahoma Wesleyan Friday, August 30th at 4:00 p.m. at Davis Field.
