Central Cruises Past Wildcats in Final Regular Season Home Doubleheader

Fayette, Mo. - The No. 3 Central Methodist Softball team battled through lightning delays to secure a doubleheader sweep over Culver-Stockton College Thursday afternoon.

Central defeated the Wildcats 9-0 in five innings in game one followed by a 3-1 victory in game two.

The Eagles made quick work of CS-C in the first game, as the opener was finished in under an hour. Madison White started the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single to score Kelena Oots

Central then loaded the bases which brought Lauren Hill to the dish. Hill brought home one run on a bases loaded walk to give CMU a 2-0 lead.

The Eagles added six more runs in the second on five hits and three home runs. Daly Garland started the inning with a solo shot to left field, before Oots and Kaysie Jolley recorded back-to-back singles.

Elizabeth Palumbo hit a three-run home run to left center to put Central up 6-0. The final two runs of the inning came via a two-run bomb from Hill.

Carly Hinton put the finishing touches on game one with an RBI double to score Cassidy Brent

Jordyn Ball pushed her record to a perfect 20-0 with a complete game shut out. She allowed just two hits while striking out a pair in the win.

In game two, the Eagles found themselves trailing 1-0 midway through the third inning.

However, Central collected back-to-back hits with a double from Daly Garland, followed by a single from Oots that put runners on the corners with no outs in the bottom half of the frame.

A wild pitch would score Garland from third and move Oots to third base. Jolley then singled through the right side to score Oots and give Central a 2-1 lead.

CMU added its final run in the fourth inning, beginning with a leadoff triple from Hill. Carly Robbins then grounded out to second base to score Hill and give CMU a 3-1 lead.

Senior Haile Farris pitched an absolute gem, allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out a career-high 12 batters. She improves her overall record to 16-1.
